A Two-Placed Heart: A Memoir in Verse

Written by Vietnamese/American Doan Phuong Nguyen, this book is a memoir told in verse, written by 12-year-old Bom to her sister, chronicling their long, difficult journey from Vietnam to the United States. Bom is afraid that her younger sister has lost contact with her roots and is completely American, while Bom resists assimilation into American society. In her memoir, she describes ESL classes, strange new foods, bullies and friendships, and how her family tries to keep their heritage alive.
