As fifth grade begins in 1963, Cooper Dale’s biggest worries are an extra strict teacher and Wade Carter, the child of a well-to-do white family, whose home Cooper’s mother cleans for extra income. How can she shine when her teacher is the Queen of Darkness, and her mother has to work for the meanest boy in school? It’s no surprise that Cooper secretly wishes she could be someone else.

Life isn’t all bad, though. Cooper and her teenage sister have both fallen for the Beatles, and Cooper is thrilled to have something special they can share again. And maybe the Fab Four can work even more magic than that.
